The below films are just a short selection of entries from past Film by the Sea festivals. All films are student led and facilitated by dedicated teachers of the NSW Department of Education.
Math Man by Sans Souci | FBTS 2018 Entrant
The project has been a very exciting focus for 2P during Literacy groups. Some students volunteered and later auditioned for main characters roles in the film by making their own movies on iMovie during Literacy groups. They viewed their own films, agreed on the actors and designed their own storyboards for our main characters. They wrote and artistically illustrated their own ideas for the plot, as a class. The students rehearsed and took turns filming or being sound technicians, although the final version was captured on a handy-cam by Math Mans Dad.
Shadows - a Miranda PS FBTS 2018 Film
**An entrant into Film by the Sea 2018** Based on the Poem "My Shadow" by Robert Louis Stevenson students in the SCAu and a Stage 3 Film Crew created an adaptation film about your shadow and the role it plays when growing up. On the day, we had a film crew from SONY Australia to piece together a "behind the scenes" clip which was really exciting.
Kikir of the Walking Trees by Grays Point PS | A FBTS 2018 entrant
This film was completely created and filmed by year 6 students. No teacher involvement in shooting the footage or editing was given. The whole class was broken into role groups and took up the creation of this film as a film study project. Students were encouraged to use different angles and experiment with different shots when filming. This project took 1 term to film. All students created mini film scenes so that they learnt how to shoot and edit, although the main filming for the movie was completed by two students for continuity. Two students wrote the script based on a book from a local author, because the thought that it matched with setting of our school in the national park. Two students filmed the entire project using their personal i pads. Students completely wrote the script for this film and shot the film. Two students edited using i movie on their i pads. They then exported this footage and added effects on the school mac book. Students chose their characters based on the book and a team created all of the hair and makeup. We asked year 2 to join us in being the baby animals, although the film was created in whole by year 6 students.
